I was extremely lucky and grateful to be invited to Brisbane Airport to watch the fire fighters of the Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting train on the mock airline live fire pad, unfortunately due to a call things where cut a little short but not before I grabbed some good images of vehicles and flames! Thanks to all the crew on duty hope you like the pics.
29th May 2005Ultra Large Fire Vehicle 1 (ULFV)
This is Ultra Large Fire Vehicle, Tender 1, built by Mills Tui , Tender 1 is a 6 wheel drive vehicle and has the usual array of fire fighting equipment you would expect from a airport vehicle.

TENDER 1&2 are ULFV Mark 7‘s Water 10200 litres AFFF 1300 litres 250 kgs of DCP 120 km/hr 0-80 km/hr in 28.5 secs.

Height 3.5 m Length 10.49 m Width 3.4 m weight 32.28 t

Monitor has output 4760 litres per minute throw of 77 metres and foam is at 6%

This is tender 4, built by Austral, this vehicle is a ‘spare’ and is used when tender 1 or 2 are off the road, tender 4 is a 4 wheel drive vehicle and has the usual array of fire fighting equipment you would expect from a airport vehicle.

ULFV Mark 5 Tender 4 has 7000 litres water 3600 litres AFFF Monitor 3600 Litres/minute throw 60 metres.

Top speed 100km/hr 0-80 in 28 seconds.

This is a 2 wheel drive Domestic Response Vehicle used for small fires, motor vehicle and medical emergencies on and around the airport.

This unit carries basic cutting and retrieval gear as well as a small amount of basic medical equipment.

Water Rescue 2 is 1 of 2 units at the airport used for water based search and rescue purposes, this is a specially designed water craft that can be used for off shore purposes if required.

On the 10th October bush fire happened around Brisbane airport, images following are of crews mopping up and using back burning to make area safe and prevent further out breaks, lots of ARFF vehicles and Hendra's (911 now 511a) appliances

12th May 2004International Airport Car Park Fire
On the 12th May 2004 a car caught fire in the international car part , a car either side also caught fire, Hendra (911 now 511a) and the Aviation Rescue & Fire Fighting attended.
